In June, a critical project was undertaken on a UKCS based FPSO for a client, addressing the replacement of a degraded fire pump control panel. The existing panel faced significant challenges due to its obsolescence and unavailability of replacement components, necessitating a full replacement to ensure the operational integrity of the FPSO’s fire safety systems. The client engaged with Dron & Dickson to oversee the procurement, installation, and commissioning of the new control panel.

The replacement F4De fire pump control panel was provided by Hubbell. To ensure the quality of the new panel, a representative from Dron & Dickson and the client attended a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) conducted at Hubbell’s facility. The FAT was completed successfully.
Key project tasks included:
• Sourcing and Procurement:
Dron & Dickson coordinated with Hubbell for the custom design and fabrication of the replacement panel, ensuring compliance with both operational needs and regulatory requirements.
• Demolition:
A two-person Dron & Dickson electrical technician team mobilised to FPSO in late May. They systematically dismantled the degraded fire pump control panel and prepared the site for installation of the new unit.
• Installation and Commissioning:
Following the installation, the commissioning phase commenced in early June. A Dron & Dickson technician, who replaced one of the initial team members, led the final testing and integration of the panel into the FPSO’s systems. In the same week, commissioning was completed successfully, ahead of schedule and without incident. -
The project was completed seamlessly, with all milestones achieved within the planned timeframe. Dron & Dickson’s execution was commended for its efficiency and professionalism by the client. The new fire pump control panel not only resolved the obsolescence issue but also reinstated the reliability of the fire safety systems on the FPSO, ensuring enhanced operational safety.
This project highlights the importance of strategic planning, collaboration, and technical expertise in delivering time-critical offshore engineering projects. -
